Šťastný nový rok!

Czechia (Resized)Ahoj!

united-kingdomFor those of you who don’t speak Czech (of which I know there are a few, myself included), my goal for the coming year is to improve my Czech. As you may already know, I started learning Czech towards the end of last year, and it’s been slow progress. Even writing that small passage up there involved me staring at a dictionary and declension tables for about 45 minutes to piece it together, and then asking a friend from the Czech Republic to give it a once-over with a red pen. Czech is… challenging, if you’ll excuse the alliteration. I have to admit, though, after a couple of months of studying, the basics are slowly starting to sink in. That said, I’ve barely scratched the surface of horrors such as verb aspect and the case system… and verb conjugation. When I can see a conjugation or declension table in front of me, I can figure out how things are supposed to fit together. Without that, I’m entirely lost. So my goal for this year is to try and walk without the crutches. And maybe go to Prague and try out my Czech. But we’ll see.

Also I’d like to thank each and every one of you for making this the best year on my blog so far. My readership and views have been growing year on year since I started doing this three years ago (to the very day), but this last year has really knocked it out of the park. Thank you for sticking with me for so long, I can’t tell you how much I appreciate you all. Let’s make 2019 the best year yet, shall we? I’ll see you all next month for something a little more substantial. As always, thanks for reading.

– J.
